Winter General Meeting
Understanding the Negotiation Process
Welcome back to what promises to be an exciting year for you and Middlesex County Educational Services Association (MCESA)! Your union, our union, has a lot of interesting programs and projects planned for the upcoming year.
We’re starting the 2018-19 year off with our Fall Member Meeting on October 22nd. Along with the opportunity to exchange ideas with other educators from ESCNJ, you’ll have the good fortune to attend the Member Benefits Fair where you will be able to learn about many of the services and discounts that come with union membership. And if the meeting and Benefits Fair aren’t enough, there will be a delicious buffet dinner and door prizes! So, hurry — RSVP right away and send us your deposit check (which will be returned to you at the dinner)!
NJEA has begun a very important campaign called “The Time Is Now” to work toward Chapter 78 relief (our contributions to our health insurance) and to find a way to provide job justice for ESPs (Essential School Personnel, our paras and aides). In addition to The Time Is Now, NJEA also encourages us to Wear Red For Ed (#redfored) on Wednesdays to show our unity and strength in numbers.
This is a very important year for MCESA — we will begin to negotiate our new Collective Bargaining Agreement (our contract) after the winter break. Be on the lookout for surveys to get your input and notices to keep you informed.
Speaking of input and keeping informed, we are in the process of setting up a social media platform and plan to begin a monthly e-newsletter. We hope you’ll participate in our social media — but even more, we hope that you will give us your input and let us know what we can do to continue to make MCESA even better.
